Pookie Goes to Hollywood

October 31, 2008

Eric Snow enjoyed a good run as a starting/backup PG-hybrid for Seattle, Philly and Cleveland over 13 seasons.
Snow, affectionately known as “Pookie,” is signed on to be an analyst for NBA TV this season.  This is on top of being retired/injured/on the Cavs roster toting a salary that may or may not be paid by [...]

Where are the Real Bulls’ Veterans?

October 31, 2008

I hate to be that guy. You know the guy who starts any sentence with,  ”I remember the good ol’ days…”  I hate it but, well, I am going to be that guy today.
I remember when all veterans in the NBA were veterans and acted like veterans. What do I mean by this?
Veterans are supposed to [...]

Luke Walton Discusses the Benefits of Brothers in Basketball

October 30, 2008

I really enjoyed Luke’s NBA.com blog this weekend. He talks about growing up with brothers and it really brings back a lot of good memories. You know: stitches, broken bones, fighting…ah, what a lovely time.  I had the benefit of playing college ball with Luke’s brother, Nate (the brain).  Nate was a great college player, [...]

NBA JAM: An Ode to the Game that Coined “Altitude with an Attitude”

October 29, 2008

ESPN The Magazine has a great throwback Q&A with Mark Turmell.  Who?  Oh, he’s just the guy that created the most groundbreaking arcade game in history… NBA JAM.
Yes, I use the word “throwback” because it makes me think back to the 300-plus lunch periods I spent at the 7-11 across the street from my middle [...]

NBA Season Starts Tonight: Here is a Rundown of the Offseason Transactions

October 28, 2008

With the regular season ready to start I thought it might be helpful to do a quick recap of things you may have forgotten happened during the long summer break.

Two-Zero? Two-Ply!

October 28, 2008

Midnight Madness? Krzyzewskiville? The Palestra?
Arkansas’ John Brown University wipes its tailpipe with your concept of hoops history and folklore.  That’s because the small, Christian school in Siloam Springs, Arkansas has one of the most awesomest traditions in college basketball.
After the first made bucket in Golden Eagles first home game of the season, the fans all [...]

Playing Time, Coach’s Fault?

October 27, 2008

I was reading an article last week about Spencer Hawes, the second year center with the Sacramento Kings.
I have a great deal of interest in Spencer.  I played in college with his uncle, Steve Hawes, who went on to a fine NBA career; I have also known his dad, Jeff, since he was a senior in high school.  Both [...]

Lindsey Hunter Still in Great Shape

October 24, 2008

According to the Daily News, the Los Angeles Clippers brought in veteran free agent Lindsey Hunter for  a workout as a potential signing. Adding Hunter the Clippers would be a contingency plan in case Baron Davis’ injury was more significant than previously thought.
As It turns out, Davis’ injury was not severe enough for the Clippers to move [...]

Lute Olson Stepping Down?

October 23, 2008

ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale is reporting that Lute Olson will step down after 25 years as the University of Arizona’s basketball coach. Associate Coach, Mike Dunlap, will take over as the interim coach for the time being.
The University of Arizona has denied the report.
If true, one of college basketball will be losing one [...]

GM Survey

October 23, 2008

NBA.com has released its annual survey of questions that they posed to almost every General Manager in the league.
The questions are quite good and very interesting to see what GMs think regarding some of the hot topics around the league. Some of my favorites are:
Which team will win NBA Finals 2009?
1. L.A. Lakers — 46.2%
2. [...]
