Not only do I live in the heart of Pac-10 country (Los Angeles), but most of my brothers [...]

Google vs. NBA Fan Voting

January 28, 2009

Last week, the NBA All-Star voting concluded with the fans picking their favorites to start in the annual classic, which is being held on February 15th in Phoenix.
As common practice by the fans, the voting is much more about a popularity contest versus which player actually deserves to start in the game. In past years, [...]

College Rebounding

January 27, 2009

Last week, I went to lunch with Swen Nater who was a teammate of mine when I was with the Virginia Squires.  For those of you who are not familiar with him, Swen went to college at UCLA and basically was the backup center, playing behind the great Bill Walton.  Although not playing much with UCLA, at [...]

January 23, 2009

In 106 seasons of University of Washington basketball, there has only been one number retired. In the 107th season, there are now two.

Carril Court

January 22, 2009

The court at Jadwin Gymnasium on the Princeton University campus will be named in honor of Hall-of-Fame coach Pete Carril this February 21st, prior to the men’s game against Dartmouth.  This is great news and well deserved by an excellent coach.
Many people credit Coach Carril with creating the “Princeton Offense”.  However, I am fairly sure [...]

Top 10 College Draft Prospects

January 21, 2009

I have decided to put a mid-year post up of my top 10 prospects from college. See the list below:
1. Blake Griffin–PF–Oklahoma–6′10″, 239 lbs.–Griffin has good size, strong and athletic–a good combination for any PF in the NBA. He possesses a good feel around the basket and gets great position on rebounds. I think his [...]

“By the way, the shot was late”

January 20, 2009

I should say right from the start that my cousin, Chris Kampe, was captain of the Mercer Island team so one should guess that I write this with the type of bias normally seen only from someone named “Olbermann” or “Coulter”.
This is the story of the 1981 Washington State basketball championship game between Shadle Park [...]

Saint Monica’s versus Saint Paul’s

January 20, 2009

I saw my first high school basketball game in probably 8 years on Friday. I went with my fiance down to the local high school, Saint Monica’s, at the end of our block for their league game. These are small schools, but I was extremely disappointed in what I saw.
Saint Monica’s had much better talent than [...]

January 19, 2009

Today, we commemorate one of the greatest leaders this country has had in its existence. Because all of you understand the importance and impact of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life, I am not going to into a long spiel on how profound his life was–I am sure if you are interested there are plenty [...]
