Today we released a reference article describing the “Origin of the Hoop“. The most interesting parts include the fact that the backboard was originally created to fend off fans, and the accompanying image of the first “basket.” What I found strange about the image is that the basket almost surely must be higher than ten [...]

Thumbnail image for Death of the NBA Dunk Contest, A Eulogy

The Dunk Contest has lived an amazing life even though it was relatively short. The Dunk Contest was a great friend; he was the kind of friend that gave you entertainment and joy during a time of dullness, I mean who really cares about the Celebrity Game, the Skills Challenge, or anything else for that [...]

Steve Nash first NBA player to light Olympic Torch

February 13, 2010

Pretty cool to see Steve Nash both carry the Olympic Torch during the relay and then to light the official torch at the Opening Ceremonies.  He was one of four people to light the torch, and as far as I can tell, he was the first NBA player to light the Olympic Torch.

Derozan to Incorporate Michael Jackson in Dunk Contest

February 11, 2010

According to TMZ.com, Demarr Derozan plans on using some Michael Jackson Thriller moves in his dunks this weekend at the All-Star Dunk Contest. I like the creativity and very curious to see how this plays out. Much better than the Superman stuff we have seen from Dwight Howard in recent dunk contests…

I am purely speculating and have zero idea if this will actually come true, but I believe nomadic coach Larry Brown will be the next coach of the Los Angeles Clippers. Let’s think this over for a minute and go through the latest from both the Clippers and Bobcats. Last week, Mike Dunleavy stepped down [...]

February 8, 2010

Today we posted a new brief History article on the site, “First College Basketball Game“, which I suggest all basketball history buffs check out. The coolest part in my opinion is this very high resolution image (click image for huge version) of the 1896 Yale Bulldogs team. Does anyone else find this photo a bit [...]

The other night, I watched the fairly new basketball documentary, “More Than a Game.” For those of you who don’t know, the film follows Lebron James in high school with his teammates and best friends on their quest to become national high school basketball champions. Looking back on it, I wonder why I didn’t catch [...]
