All-Americans

The AP pre-season All-America team was announced Monday.  Not many surprises, and I feel, pretty accurate, although I do not put a lot of trust in the true knowledge of the media. Most media members just look at stats.  An old teammate of mine once made the observation that everybody puts such faith in what the media says, yet, most of them don’t know how to put on a jock strap. That is kind of the typical reaction of athletes toward the media.

First team:

Tyler Hansbrough, UNC:  I really pull for this guy, for numerous reasons.  I’m a big Tarheel fan, I like the fact he has stayed in school, and I like the effort he always gives, though he’s not much of a passer. Some of the shots he throws up are ridiculous.

Stephen Curry, Davidson:  What a pure shooter, just like his Dad.  They must have some sweet horse games in their driveway.  A very mature game.  Shooters are always an asset, but he really knows how to play.

Luke Harangody, Notre Dame: Big East’s best big man, and that’s a mouthful.  Very strong, very physical. A beast, who can play. A 20-10 guy.

Darren Collison, UCLA:  Suffice it to say that his backup, Westbrook, was the 4th pick in the draft last year. Gives some idea about him. A jet, needs to stay healthy, but he is a big time talent.  I was surprised he stayed in school.

Blake Griffin, Oklahoma: Had a very impressive freshman year.  A prototype power forward for the NBA. Great body, nice touch up to 18′. Stuggled some versus some other teams with size.  I think he was smart to get another year of experience in college.  Potential 1st pick?

I can’t argue with this pre-season team.  An impressive group who have proven that they can lead their respective teams to victories.   All five are not afraid to put their team on their backs.  At times, they just seem to refuse to lose.  I love that. I think that element may separate them from others.

I don’t think Hansbrough will make much of a pro. Great college player for sure. Watch our for Griffin though, the kid’s got talent.

On a side note, you gotta see this Steve Nash video, who knew the guy was so funny?
