Bulls vs. Celtics: Where Amazing Happens

After watching game 6 of the Bulls vs. Celtics series, I wanted to write a post on how magnificent the series has been. I have been sitting in front of my laptop for the past hour trying to come up with something to write.

Why?

The series has been that magical. There is not one specific topic to write about as there are too many highlights that need attention.

I could discuss the fact that there has been 7 OTs in six games so far in the series. I could discuss the fact that Gordon, Pierce, Allen, Noah, Salmons, Miller (and probably others) have hit clutch shots or made clutch plays. I could discuss Rondo averaging a triple-double in the series or Allen dropping 51, or how about John Salmons, who earlier in the year was on the NBA’s worst team, the Sacramento Kings, and last night he dropped 35 to  help force a game 7. Finally, I could talk about Rondo’s tenacity and almost brawl when he threw Hinrich into the press table, a game after punching Brad Miller in the face on an end of the game foul.

There is just too much! The series has been grand and one for the ages, and I can not recall a series being as good as this one in a very long time–no matter 1st round or the Finals. Earlier, I wrote that I felt the NBA playoffs are better than the NCAA’s March Madness. I am sure some people got a laugh and disagreed (Not Truehoop), I am just glad the Bulls and Celtics proved me right.

One question remains and you can never get it with March Madness. It is probably the best questions in sports: Who do you like in Game 7?

Seriously one of the best series ever. Even Bill Simmons can’t describe it. It is awe inspiring and magical.

Can I just say that Ray Allen’s performance last night will go down in history as one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen in my whole life? Not the best performance of an NBA basketball player. Not the best playoff performance. No, one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen in my life.

Jaime- Good article. I have this argument all the time and I am usually outnumbered. I agree the NBA playoffs are better than the NCAA tournament. In part because a long series ends up producing these interesting story lines with twists and turns and heroes and villains (and some cases both in the same person)as you pointed out. In a head to head matchup an NBA series just usually produces the better team with better players, coaches, etc. The NCAA tournament doesn’t often do that, which makes it fun in a different way. The NCAA tourney I think is more exciting kinda like a sugar rush. It is easier for fans to follow with the winner that moves on declared in a couple of hours rather than a couple of weeks (for some of the 7 game series’). March Madness is all on the same tv channel. It takes the NBA playoffs to leave you thinking “what else could possibly happen?” after 6 great games like the Bulls-Celtics series.

It was pretty amazing – I can’t help but think that the Celts must be mentally wiped at this point, though.
