Required: 1 Basketball
Instructions:

The drill starts with the player with the ball on the right block facing the basket.

The player shoots the ball using the backboard if they choose. After shooting, the player retrieves the ball through the net and jumps to the left block–staying on balance.

Once on the left block, the player gathers and shoots from the left block. Again, the player retrieves the ball and goes back to the right block repeating the drill.

The drill continues alternating between the left and right block for 30 seconds.

Expert Quotes

“You can practice shooting eight hours a day, but if your technique is wrong, then all you become is very good at shooting the wrong way. Get the fundamentals down and the level of everything you do will rise.”

- Pete Carril

Keys to the Drill
  • This drill works on shooting, reacting to the ball and physical skills including balance.
  • Players should make sure they shoot from a solid base and not shoot while off balance.
  • It is more important to be solid in your base than quick, thought getting across the lane quickly should be a goal.
