Carolina Team Passing Drill

  • Drill starts with three lines at 3/4 court
  • A1 starts with the ball and throws a two-handed chest pass to B1
  • B1 dribbles down the court as A1 and C1 fill the lanes. At the foul line extended, A1 and C1 cut to the basket at a 45 degree angle
  • B1 stops at the foul line and makes a bounce pass to C1. After the pass, B1 follows the pass to the elbow area
  • C1 receives the ball and goes in for a layup
  • A1 retrieves the ball out of the basket and jumps out of bounds as B1 goes to the sideline
  • A1 throws a two-handed overhead pass to B1 (red)
  • B1 catches, turns and throws a baseball pass to C2 (orange)
  • C2 catches and throws a two-handed chest pass to B2
  • At the same time, A1, B1 and C1 run to the back of the lines, rotating one line to the right of their previous line placement
  • B2 dribbles down the court with A2 and C2 filling the lanes
  • At the foul line, B2 comes to a jump stop and A2 and C2 cut to the basket at a 45 degree angle
  • B2 bounce passes the ball to A2 for a layup, giving A2 the chance to dribble
  • B2 follows their pass to the elbow, and then to the sideline
  • A2 goes in for the layup. C2 retrieves the ball from the hoop and jumps out of bounds
  • C2 makes a 2 handed over the head pass to B2 (red) on the sideline
  • B2 catches, turns and makes a baseball pass to A3 at 3/4 court
  • C2 runs to the end of the line at the left wing, A2 to the back of the middle wing line and B2 to the back of the right wing line
  • Drill continues. A3 passing B3 as B2, C2 and A2 are getting back to the end of the lines
  • Within a short time, teams should be able to have two balls going in the drill with the second group starting when the first group goes in for the layup
  • For younger and less skilled players, drill should be run at 1/2 court with only 1 ball
  • For older and more skilled players, the drill can be run from full court
