Category: Dribbling
Skill Level: Youth Middle School, High School+
Required: Mulitple Balls, Full Team
Instructions:

The boundary of the court is a half court. Each person gets a ball and begins dribbling within the boundaries and tries to knock or tap other player’s balls away from them and out of bounds, while maintaining their own dribble.

If a player loses control of the ball or has to pick up with two hands, or it is knocked away out of bounds, they are “out”. Players who are “out” move to the sideline and the remaining players continue on.
The purpose of this drill is to develop the ability to protect your dribble and to dribble while looking up and doing other things.

This drill can go fast and balls can fly everywhere, so try to maintain order. Be sure to play at least twice to let players get a second chance and develop strategy. Encourage kids to keep their heads up and use both hands and arms.

As fewer players are left, and play increases, move them into the area within the three point line, or even within the “key” or free throw box.

Expert Quotes

“A guy can’t do something, now they create a position for him, he can’t handle the ball so he’s a shooting guard.”

- Oscar Robertson
