Jason Kidd recorded his 101st triple-double of his career last night in Dallas with 16 pts, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. The Mavericks loss to the Lakers 106-99 in what was a close hard fought game.
I am not sure how many of you got to watch this game but Kidd’s stats do not show how good he truly was in this game. I know you are sitting there, and asking how a guy who records a triple double and the stats do not prove how great of a game he had? No, I have not lost it. Well, not yet at least.
I know that I have been critical lately of Jason Kidd, but last night, he played awesome and exactly how a point guard is SUPPOSEDto play. He was great in the open floor finding open jumpers and transition buckets for the likes of Terry and Green. I will say he was slow on the ball defensively, however he was always in the right spot on his defensive rotations and he caused a few turnovers for making the right play on help defense. Above all else, he flat out competed hard to win and made his teammates better.
Unfortunately for Kidd, the Mavericks were without Josh Howard and Nowitzki was pretty awful down the stretch. I have said this before and will say it again–the Mavericks are not that good this year. I will find it very surprising if they make it to the playoffs.
Jason Kidd will have to have 150 career triple-doubles at the end of this year for them to go far and do not think the 35 year old has the legs for it.
