The Sweet Sixteen is set and the web is on fire discussing all of the upsets and Cinderella’s. MMOD and Youtube have been great for watching the games, but during the week of waiting the real action is on Twitter.
Fortunately, Basketball.org has created a list for every one of the Sweet 16 teams to create our own Tweet Sixteen.
Our lists include players, coaches, and even team dedicated Twitter accounts. Each of the teams remaining in the tournament has at least 2 members of their team Tweeting, while the Duke Blue Devels lead the way with 11 Tweeters. Washington follows a close second with 10 members of their team giving shout outs in 140 or less.
If you’d like to follow one of these teams specifically, just click on the link for your team and “follow” that list. No need to follow the players individually…we’ll update the list in case any new players come online or anything else changes.
Let’s look at some of the Tweet Sixteen matchups:
SOUTH:
#1 Duke vs. #4 Purdue: Duke leads the pack in Tweeting and Purdue poses only a slight challenge to them both on the court and texting.
#3 Baylor vs. #10 St. Mary’s: Baylor leads this matchup with 5 tweeters versus the Gael’s three. However, St. Mary’s has the “character of the tournament” with Omar Samhan. His Twitter account is a bit light, but he more than makes up for it on his blog.

WEST:
#1 Syracuse vs. #5 Butler: Syracuse comes in strong to this matchup with several very active tweeters among their 9 in total.
#6 Xavier vs. #2 Kansas State: A very even matchup here. We’ll have to keep an eye on this one all week.
EAST:
#11 Washington vs. #2 West Virginia: A big time Twitter matchup with two of the most active Twitter teams. Washington takes the slight edge here…probably their Seattle techie background shining through.
#1 Kentucky vs. #12 Cornell: Kentucky dominates this Twitter matchup as they not only have more total players, but also have the top player overall, John Wall, staying very active.
MIDWEST:
#9 Northern Iowa vs. #5 Michigan State: It looks as if cell phones and Twitter have not hit the farms yet. That, or their Coach has banned them (he is their main Tweeter, however). Either way, Nothern Iowa comes up way short in this matchup.
#6 Tennessee vs. #2 Ohio State: Ohio State not only has a large Tweeting contingent, but also their top players involved. An easy victory on this Tweet Sixteen matchup.
